Last week we watched a short video from Think Vitamin where Ryan Carson talked with Paul Boag about ‘The Demise Of The Website’ (amongst other things). But what was he really getting at? Well having talked about it within the team we think he was trying to get across that your website (however great it is) is not enough when it comes to attracting new business via the web.
Yes you need a great looking website that effectively communicates who you are, what you do and how you can help your clients – it also needs to be found via major search engines – but in truth, this isn’t enough. We’ve earmarked a few key strategies that will help drive more traffic and potential business to your site.
Engage Your Audience
Regularly write blog posts on relevant subjects within your industry and share these with the world via sites like Twitter, Digg, Stumbleupon and Facebook. This offers users easy access to your website via their favorite places on the web.
Spread The Word
Think about useful ways to get your brand name, articles or products out there, you can’t expect people repeatedly visit your site on a daily basis, it’s never going to happen. You need to make the information on your site easy to get to – offer an RSS feed for any articles that are posted, tweet about them to your followers, post them on industry specific forums, Facebook pages and so on. Invent new ways of making your brand, articles or products easy to access and at the same time reach as wider audience as possible. Consider things like mobile technologies – with more and more people using online mobile devices, you would be crazy not to try and invent ways to get your brand, articles or products noticed in this ever expanding market.
Take the iPhone for example – There are apps that enable you to update your favorite social networks, write blog posts via WordPress and even buy items on eBay, apps like this mean that you may never need to access these websites via a traditional web browser again.
Your website is obviously an important part of your online presence, but just because you have a great website doesn’t mean it’ll be a great success. You need to keep up with current web trends and find ways to tap in to new markets. You can’t just build a site and expect people to see it, it takes a lot of time and effort – content is still king but you need to get that content out there.
