Promotional Sites

Posted in Design by Ben Bush: 10th December 2008, 11:38

Promotional sites spread the word about a product or service. Some are short lived microsites that run for the duration of a campaign or a seasonal promotion. Others are larger sites that evolve over the course of time, with fresh content updated on a regular basis.

The web can be a cost effective alternative to traditional promotional mediums such as TV, print and outdoor advertising. Promotional websites are growing more popular as marketers seek less expensive ways to reach larger audiences.

Effective promotional sites concisely communicate information in clever ways with the use of intuitive interactivity, full-motion video, animation, sounds, compelling graphics and quite often contests and games. Other mediums include Facebook apps which are becoming more common when budgets can’t stretch to a fully developed site and companies can reach a much more diverse audience.

Whatever approach you take you’ll need to captivate the audience within the first 2-5 seconds and make sure to communicate your most important message clearly and first. Don’t weigh down the experience with heavy files and long load times people get bored very quickly, and with faster Internet connections people expect this now.
