Asus New Eee Keyboard PC
At FHOKE we appreciate all mediums of design and have decided to start blogging about inspirational product design. The first of these blogs covers the new Asus Eee Keyboard PC. The new keyboard from Asus is a PC accessory with a difference. Strangely named ‘Eee Keyboard PC,’ the innovative concept by Asus is not just a PC accessory, but a fully functional PC incorporated into a keyboard.
Boasting of wireless HDMI, which converts any TV into a home theater where users may enjoy movies on the bigger screen, the slim and portable Keyboard by Asus is a self-contained PC that comes with full QWERTY and a mini secondary touch-screen. The Eee Keyboard doesn’t require a tower or a monitor as it comes with an integrated small screen, about the size of an iPhone screen that sits on the right side of the keyboard. The keyboard also offers an easily accessible calculator, web browser, calendar, alarm clock and a large array of ports.
The device is designed to be portable at just under 1Kg, and boasts a range of features. It runs Windows XP Home, includes a 1.6GHz Intel Atom microprocessor, 1Gb of DDR2 DRam and a choice of 16GB or 32GB solid state drives for storage.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 and Ultra Wideband HDMI, as well as USB and VGA ports.
Asus say the design is still in the concept stage, despite it looking well advanced, and declined to announce any release information. We love the sleek look but reckon its a bit of a gimmick. It could replace the need of lugging around a large laptop all the time though and we can't help but notice the similarities of the keyboard with Apple's.
