Using Twitter Hashtags
If you use Twitter you’ll have started to notice the emergence of the use of #hastags along the way. Many of us might have thought that someone accidentally typed something in on their tweet by hitting the # symbol, but really they are simply making it easier to use Twitter. The hashtag is basically a tool used to sort through and link conversations on Twitter.
By placing the # symbol before a word, phrase, or abbreviation, (such as #FOWD) it creates a mini-search engine phrase that can be looked up and followed on Twitter.
These hashtags are also great to use to increase brand visibility, note particular events, people, and more.
Here are some easy to follow tips to increase visibility to your business:
1. Teach Yourself About How Twitter HashTags Work
Start by looking at Twitters main stream and take note of where people are using hashtags. The best way to understand them is by simply clicking on them. This will take you to the Twitter search page where you’ll see all Tweets that have also used that particular hash tag. From there you can see how it’s being used, who’s using it and links to find out more info about that tag.
2. Start Using Hashtags
Start to use them. The most popular one you may have seen is the #followfriday hashtag. Not everyone likes this but it’s a good place to start and it’s great for the ego and to find people who are worth following from people you know.
3. Create a Unique HashTag
Holding an event or a business offer, then create a hashtag unique to that subject and then get people to tweet about it.
That’s basically it. Now hashtags are more mainstream they are so much easier to use.
