Bar codes. We see them in our every day life from your morning milk to the swipe card for your evening gym membership. But who's actually given them a second thought? As designers we come to accept that space needs to be made for these black lines and every time think just how boring these are.

Well not anymore. The design team at Design Barcode have decided to make bar codes a little differently. They’ve managed to integrate design elements into the bar code of products with some great results. They were even awarded the Good Design Award in the Communication Design Category in 2005 for their efforts and have gone on to create designed bar codes for major brands in the Japanese market.
