We recently kept our customers up-to-date with the new Twitter and now it's the turn of Facebook. Some of you may have heard some hype surrounding the Facebook messaging system over the past week. It was billed as the Gmail / Hotmail / Yahoo! Mail killer but that wasn't quite the whole story. Here we explain in brief what this all means for you and your account.

So what was the hype all about? Well Facebook has just launched what it is calling the “Modern Messaging System,” a product that integrates eMail, Instant Messaging (IM) and texting (SMS) in one inbox. It's not email but an intelligent messaging system for the next web generation.

At a press event in San Francisco yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg revealed “Project Titan,” the codename for an overhauled version of the company’s messaging product. Long in need of an upgrade, Facebook has finally given it a facelift and a ton of new features. Its idea is that messaging should be simple and unified, which is why it integrates IM, chat, SMS and eMail into one inbox. Users can send e-mails from an @facebook.com address and text their friends from the same interface.

The revamped Facebook Messages will be rolled out to the social network’s 500+ million users in the next few months. Initial access has only be given to a small group of Facebook employees and beta testers. In the meantime checkout the video below to see what its all about. It might be a while until you get to try it out for yourself though but you can register your interest and you'll be told when you've been given access to the new system in the next few months.
